Session Format

useR! World Sessions
These sessions will be plenary or semi-plenary with the "usual" sequence of oral presentations and discussions. Each speaker has a slot of 20 minutes which should cover both the presentation and time for questions. The morning sessions should be a kaleidoscope of different applications/usages of R - speakers should keep in mind that the audience will be R users with very heterogenous backgrounds and not experts in the particular field of the presentation. The afternoon sessions will be a bit more specialized focusing on several topics of current interest.
The lecture rooms will be equipped with an LCD projector ("beamer") and a laptop. For smooth transitions between the talks it would be very helpful to receive the slides as a pdf file (no powerpoint please) a week before the conference starts.

useR! Island Sessions
These sessions will be open space sessions with "islands" corresponding to a topic of special interest. Each island will have an overhead projector, a table, power sockets, internet connection, and facilities for putting up posters. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops and actually show the way they use R to the other participants on their island. This form of presentation will not be the "usual" poster presentation but each island should rather be a workshop-like platform for the exchange between users with similar interests and spawn discussions which would not be able in a multi-track format.
The useR! island sessions are moderated by a chair. To start the discussion, each participant should prepare a brief presentation of not more than 5 minutes. Announcements for each useR! island will be made during the (semi-)plenary useR! world sessions by one of the chairs.
If you want to put up a poster: the size of each poster display is approximately 100x200cm and a poster size of ISO A0 is recommended. Posters must be fastened with sticky tape (no pins). A supply of tape will be available.
